Non US Citizens Right To Vote In Local Elections In New York

Residents of New York City may be eligible to vote.

Have you heard about it on the news? If you are a resident of New York City, and you are a legal permanent resident of New York City, you may now be eligible to vote in certain local elections.

Normally, to register and be able to vote in New York City,  you must be a US citizen.

However, New York City imposed a new rule for voting. The new rule includes:

  • You must be a New York City resident.
  • You must be a Green Cardholder
  • You must have a legal working permit to work in New York City.

If you qualify, then,  you may now be able to vote in certain local elections.  Now you have to be careful because you are still prohibited from voting in federal and state elections. And those elections can take place at the same time as the local elections.

If you are a legal permanent resident or you have a valid work permit and you live in New York City. This is something that you may want to take advantage of.  A right you may want to exercise.
